Most apartments in Athens don't come with a yard for a dog to burn off energy in — the walk is the exercise, and often the only real contact with the outside world in a dog's day. When work or errands don't leave room for a second or third walk, that adds up fast into a dog who's bored or restless. Petit-o gives you access to sitters in your area who can take that walk on, either as a one-off or on a recurring basis.

How it works

You create your dog's profile, send a walk request, and see which sitters nearby have expressed interest. A sitter tapping "interested" doesn't mean they've been automatically selected — you can look at each one's profile, experience, and reviews and choose who you actually trust, before confirming the booking. Until you choose, the request just sits pending; if nobody fits, you can simply cancel it rather than having to reject each interested sitter one by one.

Before you book, there's an in-app chat to talk through your dog's needs with the sitter — temperament, habits, anything they should be careful about. The sitter doesn't see your exact address before the booking, only your general area and distance — that's deliberate, so you only share your details once you've actually decided.

What Petit-o checks before a sitter appears

Every sitter profile goes through review before it's approved — checking that the photo clearly shows the sitter's face (no logos or promotional material) and that the profile description has enough useful information. Average approval time is around 2 working days, though it's taken 5–6 in some cases. Beyond that, sitters who receive payments go through separate identity verification via Stripe, independent of their Petit-o profile approval.

Practical notes for walking in an Athens summer

Athens pavement in summer gets far hotter than it feels to a person standing on it — if you can't hold your hand on the sidewalk for 5 seconds, it's not safe for your dog's paws either. General precautions worth keeping in mind (or discussing with your sitter):

• Avoid peak heat hours — early morning or after sunset is best
• Make sure water is available on the route
• Stick to shaded stretches where you can, especially for brachycephalic breeds (French Bulldogs, for instance) that struggle more in heat
